Functional Blood Work Analysis in Springfield, MO
If your last lab report came back “normal” and you still don’t feel like yourself, we’re not asking your blood the same questions a standard panel does.
What It Is
What Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis Actually Is
Standard lab ranges are built to catch disease. They’re drawn from a broad, mixed population, most of whom are not thriving, and they’re set wide enough to flag only the most extreme outliers. That leaves a lot of room in between “flagged” and “well” where you can sit for years, feel run down the whole time, and still get told every number is fine.
Functional blood chemistry analysis reads the exact same blood draw against a tighter, optimal range: the window where people who actually feel good tend to sit. Just as important, I don’t read markers one at a time. I look at how they move together, because a pattern across several numbers usually tells me more about the underlying driver than any single value in isolation.
This isn’t about ordering something exotic. It’s about reading familiar numbers the right way, and it’s a big part of how I work through the SHC (Systems Health Care) process I use with every patient in my Springfield office.
Sound Familiar?
Why “Normal” Labs and Feeling Terrible Keep Showing Up Together
This is the single most common thing I hear from new patients: “My doctor ran everything and said I’m fine, so why do I feel like this?” If any of this sounds familiar, you’re not imagining it.
A standard range has to be wide enough to catch full-blown disease in a general population, so there’s a wide band inside “normal” where you can be functioning poorly and still land inside the lines. When we narrow that window and read your markers as a pattern instead of a checklist, that’s usually where the driver has been hiding the whole time.
What’s On The Panel
What My Functional Workup Includes
One draw, read in full. Here’s what’s typically on the panel:
If a “normal” TSH alongside real thyroid symptoms sounds familiar, I go much deeper into my approach on my thyroid page.

If ongoing digestive symptoms are part of your picture, I also have a dedicated page on gut and SIBO issues.

You leave with a plan, not just a portal login.
I don’t bill insurance directly, but I provide a superbill you can submit for possible reimbursement depending on your plan, and I accept HSA and FSA.

Common Questions
Common Questions About Blood Work
My labs already came back “normal.” Why would your read be any different?
Same blood, different yardstick. Standard ranges are built wide enough to catch disease, so there’s plenty of room inside them to feel terrible. I compare your results to functional ranges instead, the tighter window where people who feel genuinely well tend to sit, and I read your markers together as a pattern rather than one line at a time.
What’s actually included in the panel?
A full functional blood chemistry panel: complete blood count, comprehensive metabolic panel, full lipid panel, a complete thyroid picture (not just TSH), iron studies, vitamin D, inflammation markers, fasting blood sugar and insulin, and an autoimmune screen.
Do you take insurance?
I don’t bill insurance directly. I provide a superbill you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement depending on your benefits, and I accept HSA and FSA.
How soon will I know what’s actually going on?
Results typically take a few days to come back. From there we schedule your sit-down visit to go through the full functional read and build your plan together, so you’re never left staring at a lab portal on your own.
